Beverly Poolside Mornings

I’ve had this photo waiting in the wings for what feels like ages. A lot of work went into it so it’s time to show. I took a few others at the same time and removed the pool cleaner. I’ve left him in this photo as he is part and parcel of the hotel; just as important as the GM. Don’t believe me? See how many guests will take to a green smelly pool 😉

“Avoiding something, draws it ever near. Defending yourself can become a full time job. And worrying about things that might never happen increases their chances of happening. Yet still, you are 10,000 times more likely to laugh than cry, be healthy than sick, live rich than poor, have friends than be alone. That’s the kind of momentum you’ve garnered through countless lifetimes of love. That’s the kind of power you long ago learned to master. And, quite frankly, those were the odds you negotiated. You’re just another part of me” ~ The Universe

Umhlanga on the Rise

“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is hardly a waste of time.” – Sir J. Lubbock

It’s guaranteed to be an awesome sunrise tomorrow morning (24 June 2016) at the beach. Probably not the clouds photographers would like, but crisp air and sun.

This photo was taken on Umhlanga Beach about 100 m south of Umhlanga Pier in front of The Beverly Hills Hotel on 16 June 2016 using a Canon South Africa G3X Powershot. 1/4 sec. F11. ISO 125. Small Joby GorillaPod.

Take a risk, change your routine

Sunil Bali wrote the following:

Professor of Psychology, Ed Diener, says that “The aim of life is to die young as late as possible.”

Here are a few tips on how to do just that:

If you take a £20 note, crumple it up, throw it on the floor, and tread on it a few times, it may be a little dirty and the worst for wear, but it hasn’t lost any of its value. The same is true of you. Remember, what happens to you doesn’t change your value.
Whatever life you have in you, express it. If you have the urge to bake cakes, do stand up comedy, or run a marathon ….. overcome the inertia and do it. The act of expression increases present moment awareness, flow, and therefore happiness.
Take a risk, change your routine and do something which makes your soul soar. Sleep replenishes a tired mind and body, but sleep doesn’t help if its your soul that’s tired.
Make sure that everyday you love someone, believe in something and hope for something. When you’re crystal clear on your why the how tends to show up.
Get outside and get lost in nature because this is our true nature. In evolutionary terms, it wasn’t that long ago that we lived in caves. Humans have become too domesticated and were born to be wild. There maybe no WiFi in the forest, but you will find a better connection.

Lighthouse Stroll

Good morning Durban! Fancy an early morning stroll on the promenade past The Beverly Hills Hotel?
“When you are confronted by tests and trials, remember the wise saying: “Even this will pass away”. It will give you strength to face everything. Surrender to the Lord and draw inspiration from within. Study the lives of saints and eminent men and try to follow their example. You will very soon conquer pessimism” ~ Sri Swami Sivananda

So what did you do with your morning before work today?

Start your weekend before the weekend and maximise your happy time doing something you enjoy.

I took this photo on Thursday morning before work. There were loads of people walking on the promenade and a few fishing or just sitting / walking and contemplating.

All that was needed was for me to pack my camera, breakfast, lunch and work equipment the night before. In the morning I woke up at 05:00 and had a quick shave & shower. I was then off to Umhlanga to take photos.

I left Umhlanga before 08:00 for my work trip up the coast.
